Met Éireann forecast mix of sun and scattered showers, with temperatures to drop to -2 degrees overnight

Met Éireann has forecast a mix of sun and scattered showers, with temperatures set to drop to -2 degrees overnight, before rising “closer to normal” next week.

This morning any mist and fog will gradually clear, leaving a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers of rain or hail at first.

The showers will become more isolated as the afternoon progresses. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest winds.

Another cold night with frost and icy patches developing in lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees.

After a mainly dry start with clear spells and isolated showers, cloud will thicken from the southwest overnight with outbreaks of rain developing in Munster later. Light to moderate southeast winds will freshen in the southwest towards morning.

On Monday morning, many areas will start off dry with a few bright spells.

However, outbreaks of rain in Munster will gradually spread northeastwards across the country through the day, turning heavy at times.

Becoming drier for a time in the south and southwest towards evening. Windy with fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds developing and gales on some coasts.

Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.

Monday night will be windy especially over the western half of the country, with scattered outbreaks of rain. Drier conditions and clear spells will slowly spread from the southwest towards morning.

Light to moderate southerly winds will veer southwesterly overnight, increasing fresh to strong in Munster, Connacht and west Ulster. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees in fresh to strong southerly winds, easing and veering westerly by morning.

Any rain will clear to the north on Tuesday morning. Turning dry for most with sunny spells, though a few showers are possible, mainly in the south and southwest.

Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds.

After a dry start, it will turn cloudier on Tuesday night with outbreaks of rain spreading from the west later. Becoming quite breezy also with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds developing. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, coolest in Ulster.

Wednesday: A dull day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most persistent over the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in moderate southeasterly winds.

Thursday: A blustery day on Thursday with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in fresh southeast winds.

“Current indications suggest that there will be further showers or longer spells of rain for Friday and the weekend,” Met Éireann added.
