The Wolfe Tones get ready to bid a final farewell to the US

The Wolfe Tones are getting ready to say goodbye to their American fans in coming months. The legendary Irish band will travel across the pond in March for their USA Farewell Tour, marking the final chapter of nearly 60 years touring together.

The Wolfe Tones announced their retirement last year, revealing that they would play their final ever show in Dublin in October 2024. The US leg of the tour kicks off in Chicago on March 2 before heading to Pennsylvania on March 6.

The band will perform in Boston on March 9 and in Connecticut on March 13, before playing two sold out shows in New York right before St Patrick’s Day on March 15 and 16.

Tickets are selling fast for the rest of the concerts, which is no surprise going off The Wolfe Tones track record in the US. The Dublin natives have been performing in North America since 1966 and have long connected to immigrants here. They’ve also seen a renewed interest from a younger fanbase following on from their historic set at Electric Picnic in Ireland last summer.

“There’s always a big demand for The Wolfe Tones. It’s amazing after all these years we’re still carrying a big crowd with us,” said founding band member Brian Warfield. “We get people from all backgrounds. We get people from Polish backgrounds, German backgrounds, Jewish backgrounds and all the ethnic communities in America.

“They come along because they can identify with the story. They don’t speak their language anymore and the songs where their families are from don’t mean much to them. When they hear the Irish story, they can equate it to their own story and history because they understand it.”

Brian’s brother Derek is also currently touring the US with his band, The Young Wolfe Tones. Derek was a founding members of The Wolfe Tones but left the band in 2001 after 37 years. He formed The Young Wolfe Tones in 2005 with the aim of bringing Irish balladry into a new age.

The band is playing everywhere from Boston to San Francisco over the next two months with dates in New York, Florida, Ohio, Chicago, Texas and more. The Young Wolfe Tones will perform at the United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco on February 17 and 18; at Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago on February 24; and in various Massachusetts and New York locations from March 1 to March 10.
