Journalist tips United’s golden boy to leave this summer after being made empty promises by Ten Hag

Amad Diallo provided Manchester United fans with one of their most memorable moments of the campaign last month, but he has yet to feature for a single minute since then.

On March 17, the attacker linked up superbly with Alejandro Garnacho to form a deadly counter-attack that culminated in Amad scoring an extra-time winner and knocking Liverpool out of the FA Cup.

His subsequent shirt-off celebration led to him receiving a second yellow and therefore, being sent straight down the tunnel and forced to serve a one-match ban, which came against Brentford.

Despite proving that he can provide such composure and clinical finishing in high-stakes clashes, Erik ten Hag has not called upon Amad to feature since that game. He was available for selection for both the Chelsea and Liverpool (Premier League) fixtures but spent all 180 minutes watching on from the bench.

You can’t deny that it’s harsh for the 21-year-old, especially given that in January, Ten Hag was the one who convinced him to stay at Old Trafford over going out on loan – and Amad wasn’t short of offers. Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Leeds United were all believed to be in pursuit of the player but had their approach rebuffed by the club.

Since returning from a long-term knee injury last December, the Ivorian has featured for a mere 98 minutes in total – just 46 of those minutes have come in the Premier League via two substitute cameos.

Amad tipped for summer exit

As such, Manchester Evening News writer Steven Railston has tipped Amad for a potential summer exit. His career just isn’t progressing at the speed he’d have hoped at this stage, and United’s depth in attack means the situation is unlikely to change significantly next term.

“Nobody would blame Amad for pushing for a move away this summer and, in truth, that seems like the best option for him because he’s played just 98 minutes since his return from injury. Although he might not be good enough to currently start for United, his potential is obvious and that will only be unlocked by regularly starting games,” Railston penned.

“Amad looks set to be on his travels once the curtains are brought down on the campaign.”
