Amazon series with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score is Prime’s most-watched series

Amazon Prime Video’s latest blockbuster series has debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and has broken records to become the streamer’s most-watched series of 2023. The action-packed Reacher returned to Prime on December 15 for its second season, which sees the return of its titular hero, veteran military police investigator Jack Reacher.

The series has earned a huge global audience since its first season, which quickly became one of Prime Video’s top five most watched original seasons ever after its 2022 debut. But audience data suggests its second season could fare even better as it became Prime’s most-watched title of 2023 within five days of its premiere.

The first three episodes of season two surpassed the entire season one audience by 50 percent in their first three days on the streamer, Deadline reported. Considering season one racked up 1.84 billion minutes viewed in the US alone, then an extra 50 percent for its latest outing is a huge success for Amazon, who has already announced a third season is in the works.

The new season has gone down a storm with critics and general audiences and currently boasts a perfect 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Both seasons of Reacher are available to stream exclusively on Prime Video, which usually costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year and comes with a host of benefits like next day delivery and Amazon Music Prime – while Prime Video alone can be joined for £5.99 a month.

Reacher’s sophomore season kicked off with the muscle-bound hero receiving a coded message that the members of his former US Army unit – the 110th MP Special Investigations – are being mysteriously and brutally murdered one by one. Reacher is pulled from his drifter lifestyle and reunites with several of his former teammates to investigate.

Fans of the series have flocked to social media since the season two premiere to sing its praises. Writing on X – formerly Twitter – @MlcLucian said: “This is so good! Hopefully we will get at least eight more seasons of this!”

Reacher is based on the long-running and best-selling novels by Lee Child – who serves as an executive producer – and is fronted by Fast X star Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher alongside Maria Sten, Serinda Swan, Shaun Sipos and Robert Patrick. It is written for TV by Emmy-nominated The Sopranos and Prison Break writer Nick Santora, who also serves as showrunner.
