Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Getting Big Upgrade Later This Year

  • Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is getting a PS5/Xbox Series X/S upgrade on May 24, 2024.
  • The game continues to receive updates and DLC, adding new characters and features to keep players engaged.
  • Fans are divided on the upgrades, with some calling for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, while others welcome the continued support for the game.

Bandai Namco has announced that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will be getting its PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade later in May. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was first released in 2016, following the success of its 2015 predecessor. Xenoverse 2 players create their own character to fight off enemies that threaten the Dragon Ball timeline as a member of the Time Patrol. The game has been a big success ever since its release almost eight years ago, selling over 10 million copies worldwide.

Xenoverse 2’s nearly decade-long support has contributed to its longevity, and it is still getting free updates and DLC to this day. These updates have added new playable characters like Orange Piccolo from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film, new custom character transformations, story campaigns, cross-play, and more. Now Xenoverse 2 will finally be coming to the ninth console generation with a big upgrade later this year.

A recent report indicates the upcoming Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero may be splitting its fighters into balanced character archetypes.

Bandai Namco revealed that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will be getting PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions on May 24, 2024. While plans for these upgrades were first detailed in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s seventh anniversary update, this is the first time Bandai Namco confirmed an official launch date for these new versions. Like most PS4 and Xbox One games that have been brought over to their successor platforms, Xenoverse 2 has Smart Delivery support. Players are able to transfer save data from their PS4 or Xbox One versions and continue playing after upgrading to the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Details regarding these upgrade paths and save data transfer instructions will be provided at a later date.

The seventh anniversary update also detailed a 2024 DLC road map for Xenoverse 2, which includes a new story DLC campaign scenario, more playable characters, and other additional content. Xenoverse 2’s post-launch momentum isn’t slowing down anytime soon, and these new versions will ensure the game is going to keep getting support. While some fans are happy that Xenoverse 2 will be getting these upgrades, others believe that Xenoverse 2 has run its course and Bandai Namco should consider producing a Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 instead of continuously supporting the older game.

The timing to reveal Xenoverse 2’s new versions is surprisingly apt, as Dragon Ball FighterZ got upgrades to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at the end of February. Dragon Ball FighterZ also got its long-requested rollback netcode update the same day. In terms of other Dragon Ball games in development, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, another 3D arena fighter, will be launching exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
