Tens of thousands of employers still have to request a final calculation of wage support

Some 38,000 employers still have to provide figures on the basis of which the wage support they received in the spring of 2020 can be definitively determined. This is evident from figures from the UWV. This means that more than a quarter of the employers involved have not yet provided the figures.

The deadline is next Sunday night, and companies that don’t provide the data, such as lost sales, have to pay everything back. This is the first round of a total of six rounds of wage support that was given to companies during the pandemic.

In the meantime, bookkeepers and accountants are busy carrying out the necessary checks. The question is whether this will succeed in all cases on time.

About 8 billion euros was transferred in the first three months of the corona crisis to companies that had applied for wage support. It was not possible to check in advance exactly how much money these companies were entitled to. The goal was to get money to companies as quickly as possible to avoid mass layoffs.

That’s why companies received an advance, based on their own estimate of how much sales loss they expected to make that quarter. That advance was not the full amount, but 80 percent of it.

How much aid the companies were definitively entitled to is calculated retrospectively, so now. Companies must report to the UWV how much loss of turnover they actually had. The expectation is that many companies will have to pay back money.
