The teenage girl who died in a horrific crash over the Bank Holiday weekend is the third tragic death for her heartbroken family, it has emerged.

Molly Dempsey, who was 15, was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed in Slaney Park in Baltinglass in Co Wicklow at around 5am on Sunday.

She was described by shocked pals as “the most loving, caring and kind-hearted person”.

The driver of the car, a male also in his teens, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act. He has been released and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Molly’s death is the latest tragedy to hit her family after her older brother Roy died in September 2007 when he was just 13 years of age. And in 2016, the Dempsey family suffered further heartache when another sibling, Killian, died suddenly, aged just 16.

Molly, who came from a well-respected family in Baltinglass, is the 71st person to die on Ireland’s roads this year. That’s already 18 more fatalities than the same time period last year.

With her funeral details yet to be announced, tributes continue to pour in for the popular teenager whose tragic death has left the community of Baltinglass in shock.

A heartbroken family member posted on social media: “Fly high baby girl. You have broken our hearts. Watch over us all.”

A friend wrote: “Molly, you have broken my heart in pieces. In your short life you have brought many laughs and smiles to people all around you. I know for sure you have always put a smile on my face and never failed to make me laugh with your goofiness and your great personality.

“You were the most loving, caring and kind-hearted person that I’ve ever come across and would always go above and beyond for anyone. You always had a cheeky smile on your face and a cheeky little smile at that.

“I hope your big brothers up there are looking after you and hope you are all looking over your friends and family during this hard time. Rest in peace my beautiful angel. We all love you and miss you so much.”

The road at Slaney Park was closed on Sunday as a technical examination took place. Gardaí investigating the crash have continued to appeal for witnesses.

They have also urged anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident to contact detectives.
