Fortnite’s Speed Run is a racing mode which challenges players to have the best lap times on different tracks. Unlike Ranked Racing where players race against one another to rank up, in Speed Run, players race against the clock to set the fastest time possible on a run and rank high on a separate Leaderboard.

Many players immediately jumped into Speed Run mode as soon as it was released, hoping to make it to the top of the leaderboard. However, some were apprehensive and wondering if it was worth their time. Thankfully, this guide will tell players everything they need to know about the Speed Run mode, so they can decide if they want to give it a try.

Rocket Racing Speed Run Mode Overview

The Speed Run mode tasks players with setting the fastest possible run time while completing multiple runs over the course of a match. Players race on different Rocket Racing tracks like Riviera Rush, Olympico, and Anaconda Bite and strive to produce the best lap times on each course. The mode features a stopwatch that counts down the time taken to complete a race, and there are 10 different tracks to race on.

Speed Run has a separate Leaderboard displaying the best lap times for each course. Players can use this Leaderboard to see how they stack up globally against other racers. They can also use it to measure the time to beat to climb up the ranks.

How to Play the Rocket Racing Speed Run Mode

To access Speed Run in Fortnite, enter the Rocket Racing game mode, navigate to the mode selection screen, and select the Speed Run mode. From here, you can select the Speed Run playlist with rotating tracks or choose a specific track from the Speed Run section.

How the Speed Run Mode Works

The goal of the Speed Run mode is simple: race against other players to set the best possible lap times on that track, setting the best time for other players to beat. The Speed Run mode is the perfect way to improve speed and practice going as fast as possible on different tracks.

Players utilize the same Rocket Racing techniques as the normal mode, like drifting, air dodging, flying, and speed boosting to get ahead. Each match has a countdown that allows players to complete as many runs as possible. For instance, Riviera has a countdown of 7.00 minutes, giving you more than enough time to run again as many times as you wish to get the shortest time possible.

When running again, you’ll see a ghost car present to show you how you performed in the previous run. You can use this ghost vehicle to correct your mistakes and shave seconds off the previous race. If the ghost vehicle is visibly ahead of you during a repeat run, it means you’re racing slower than the previous run and need to improve.

You can play Speed Run in Public and Private matches. Collisions are turned off in public matches to ensure players focus on setting the fastest time possible. Private matches are a great choice if you don’t want to be distracted by other races on a course.
