Leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream party were told by Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien that it was the Russian Federation that was trying to drag Georgia into war, not Western forces.

O’Brien commented on the statements of the Georgian Dream leaders that the West allegedly intended to “open a second front” in Georgia after Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine and that the party prevented this.

“It is Russia that is dragging Georgia into the war in Ukraine. Russia is starting to build a giant military port on the territory of Georgia it occupies (Abkhazia – ed.). Abductions and sometimes murders of Georgian citizens continue,” he explained.

The State Department representative also noted Tbilisi’s decision not to allow Moscow to block military cargo and goods through Georgian territory. O’Brien emphasized that this was the right thing to do.

“The Georgian government made a wise decision, tried to stop this to the best of its ability, and it did a good job. That is why it is Russia that is trying to drag Georgia into this war,” he concluded.

The Georgian government passed the scandalous law on foreign agents in the second reading. Against this backdrop, large-scale protests against such actions of the authorities began in Tbilisi near the parliament building.

Security forces have tried several times to disperse the protesters using tear gas and rubber bullets.

In addition, RBC-Ukraine reported that, according to Western media, Russia is preparing sabotage across Europe.
