Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ achieves over 2 million sales in the U.S.

Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” is making waves in the music industry, soaring past 2 million in U.S. album sales within just two weeks of its release. This achievement marks Swift’s 11th album to hit the 2 million mark in sales, showcasing her enduring popularity among fans.

In its second week on the charts, ending on May 2, “The Tortured Poets Department” continued to impress, selling 107,000 copies. While this figure was a significant drop from its blockbuster debut week, where it sold 1.914 million copies, it still maintained a strong presence in the market. Notably, the album’s cumulative sales of 2.021 million in just two weeks accounted for 8.4% of all U.S. album sales year-to-date, underscoring its impact on the music landscape.

This milestone also places “The Tortured Poets Department” in rare company, as it becomes the first album since Adele’s “25” in 2015 to surpass 2 million copies in its first two weeks. Adele’s record-setting sales of 4.49 million during that period remain unmatched, but Swift’s achievement is nonetheless remarkable.

Maintaining its dominance, “The Tortured Poets Department” retained its position at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart for a second consecutive week. This chart ranks albums based solely on traditional album sales, dating back to 1991 when Billboard began utilizing SoundScan data.

Meanwhile, the rest of the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart saw a mix of debuts and re-entries. Notably, Grateful Dead’s archival release, “Dave’s Picks, Volume 50: The Palladium, New York, NY – 5/3/77,” debuted at No. 2 with 20,000 copies sold. Additionally, Lafey’s “Bewitched” re-entered the list at No. 2, achieving its highest position yet, fueled by a deluxe reissue featuring bonus tracks across various formats.

Joining the ranks of debuts were Yung Bleu’s “Jeremy” at No. 4, Luke Hemmings’ “Boy” at No. 5, and St. Vincent’s “All Born Screaming” at No. 6, each making their mark on the charts with strong initial sales figures.

Despite the success of “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift’s previous works continue to resonate with audiences. Her re-recorded album, “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” slipped to No. 7, while “Lover” dropped to No. 8. Newcomer ILLIT entered the charts at No. 9 with “Super Real Me,” followed by TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s “minisode 3: TOMORROW” rounding out the top 10.

Taylor Swift’s impact on the music industry is undeniable. From her early days as a country pop sensation to her evolution into a global pop icon, Swift has consistently pushed boundaries and captivated audiences with her storytelling prowess. With numerous accolades and record-breaking achievements to her name, Swift continues to leave an indelible mark on music and popular culture alike.
