As rains continued unabated in several regions of Tamil Nadu, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Chennai and six other districts for Monday.

Schools and colleges in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Thanjavur, Thirunelveli and Thuthukudi on Monday due to rain.

On Sunday, rains continued in several parts of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry, inundating many areas. Daily life came to a standstill as several roads and subways were waterlogged, affecting ordinary citizens and their daily routine.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the northern regions, including Chennai, Cuddalore and neighbouring Puducherry witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall and it was scattered, light to moderate in other areas of the state.

The Meteorological Department has forecast showers, especially in regions close to the coast till November 29 morning.

On Sunday, till 7.30 PM, the Cuddalore-Puducherry belt recorded 7 CM rainfall while Chennai recorded 6 CM (Meenambakkam) and 1 CM (Nungambakkam) respectively, the RMC said.

Chief Minister M K Stalin inspected several flooded suburban areas like Tiruverkadu in Tiruvallur District and monitored work to bail out flood water. In a tweet, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that “we will come out of the aftermath of the heavy rains.”
