Erode (Tamil Nadu): A 54-year-old man from Tamil Nadu’s Erode district lost his tongue after getting bitten by a snake on the tongue.

As per reports, Raja, a resident of Gobichettipalayam in Erode district and a farmer, had been frequently having haunting dreams of being bitten by a snake for the last several days.

Following this, Raja approached an astrologer seeking a remedy to get rid of the scary dreams. The astrologer advised him to perform some puja to a snake as a remedy to the haunting dreams and directed Raja to a temple where there was a snake burrow.

Accordingly, he reached the temple for the puja where the priest asked Raja to show his tongue to the snake after performing the puja.

Accordingly, he conducted the puja near the snake burrow, and at the end of the rituals, Raja stuck his tongue out thrice in front of a Russell’s Viper. The venomous snake bit him on his tongue and Raja collapsed to the ground.

The temple priest who saw this immediately cut Raja’s tongue off. Then, he was rushed to the Manian medical centre in Erode by his relatives, where the snakebite treatment was done.

Chief doctor of the Erode Manian Medical Centre Dr. S Senthil Kumaran informed that the patient was admitted to the hospital on November 18 with heavy bleeding from his mouth.

“The tongue tissues were affected due to the snake’s venom. The doctors treated Raja for his severed tongue and also gave him an antidote for snake venom. We have to struggle for four days to save Raja’s life even after amputating his tongue,” Dr. Senthil Kumaran said.
