fpl tips: three best times to use triple captain chip in fantasy premier league this season

After a weekend of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) success for those who had Arsenal players, Cole Palmer (£5.9m) and their captaincy on Erling Haaland (£14.4m), it’s now time to think of the armband in more detail.

Double gameweek 25 sees four teams play twice – Manchester City, Liverpool, Brentford and Luton. With a chaotic jungle of further doubles and blanks to be navigated over upcoming weeks, FPL managers will no doubt be thinking of strategies for when to best use their remaining chips.

One of which is the Triple Captain, which gives all managers one opportunity per season to multiply their chosen captain’s points by three rather than the usual two.

With this in mind, here are a few interesting occasions managers could activate it, from Fantasy Football Scout.

Gameweek 25

This is a topical subject because, looking online, many are intending to use the chip on Haaland this week. It certainly makes sense to place Triple Captain on somebody about to have a double gameweek.

Not just anyone, either. It’ll be the league’s top scorer playing twice for the three-in-a-row champions. Manchester City are in relentless form, winning their last 11 matches in all competitions to emphatically end their early winter wobble.

Meetings against Chelsea and Brentford are both at home but there’s a chance that Haaland – only recently back from a two-month foot injury – could see his minutes limited by Pep Guardiola.

Gameweek 28

Another idea is to direct the chip towards a scorer whose game time feels unquestionable. Dominic Solanke (£6.9m), for example.

Gameweek 17’s abandoned Bournemouth vs Luton fixture has been moved to March 13, forming a double gameweek 28 in FPL.

Whereas the Hatters visit Crystal Palace before the south coast, what arguably puts Solanke ahead of Elijah Adebayo (£4.9m) is the fact that he’ll be hosting Sheffield United too.

However, neither Bournemouth nor Luton are seen as reliable teams. The Cherries’ festive form has turned into a five-match winless run, in which Solanke has netted once.

Gameweek 34

Alternatively, FPL managers could wait longer. Both gameweeks 34 and 37 are expected to become doubles and we already know Liverpool will play at Fulham in the former.

Add another match to that and suddenly someone like Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) could be the answer.

The problem is that using it here would block other, possibly better, chips from being used instead.
