Domino’s has launched several new items that will likely delight fans of pizza and pasta — unless they’re Italian.

The fast food chain has combined the flavours of iconic dishes to create two new pizzas, so you can now get your hands on the Ultimate Lasagne Pizza, as well as the Ultimate Carbonara Pizza.

‘I apologise to the nation of Italy on your behalf,’ said Steve Kerr on X (formerly Twitter) after the items were announced.

But not everyone felt this way, as many fans were keen to get stuck in. On Instagram, @kerrieashl_foodandlife proclaimed: ‘I absolutely need to try both ASAP.’

While @thisisplanetfood branded the pizzas ‘fit’.

Prices for the pizzas vary depending on the size you order, with a 7-inch personal pizza for one costing £7.99, and a large pizza for four priced at £23.99.

Also new on the menu are Cadbury Creme Egg filled cookies. There’s been a lot of hype surrounding these, with chocolate lovers drooling over the seasonal treat.

Asda’s official account proclaimed they look ‘too good’ on Instagram, as Voxi UK said: ‘Wow, need. now.’

The team at Metro.co.uk has given the new items a try to see if they’re really as good as they look. Here are our honest thoughts…

The Ultimate Lasagne pizza didn’t impress us much (Picture: Metro.co.uk)

The Ultimate Lasagne Pizza, 2.5/5

What’s on it?

The experimental new pizza is made up of cheese sauce, mozzarella cheese, ground beef, tomatoes, and red onions on a hand-stretched base.

What’s the verdict?

Lifestyle reporter Courtney Pochin wasn’t a huge fan, scoring it a measly 2.5/5. She said: ‘Last year McDonald’s brought out a Lasagne burger and it was delicious. Blasphemous to the Italians, but tasty nonetheless.

‘This Lasagne Pizza is blasphemous, but nowhere near as good, I’m sorry to say.

‘If you’re a fan of the flavour combo of beef and onion, then you’ll probably enjoy this. But if you’re a lasagne fan, I wouldn’t say it tastes like the dish at all. There’s a slight creaminess to it from the cheese sauce, but otherwise it’s just a bog-standard pizza.’

Assistant Platform editor James Besanvalle agreed it didn’t quite fulfil the brief, saying: ‘All the flavours are certainly there but this crunchy alternative just doesn’t slap as hard as the pasta would slurp into your mouth, unfortunately. It needs more toppings to recreate the feel of lasagna layers. I won’t be retiring my ceramic lasagna dish anytime soon.’

However, deputy first-person and opinion editor, Ross McCafferty was more impressed by the pizza, claiming it was ‘better than he expected’.

‘I should declare an interest in saying I used to work at Domino’s, so, any time they come up with a new wacky pizza I’m quite hard to impress, because I know it won’t be as bizarre as the concoctions we used to knock up on our lunch breaks (chicken strip, jalapeño and blue cheese pizza, anyone?) but to be fair this one was better than I thought it would be,’ he said.

‘It doesn’t taste the slightest bit like lasagne, but then I’m not a huge fan of lasagne so that’s a bonus. The cheese base works well, and the toppings all compliment each other, with the exception of the drizzle of tomato sauce at the top — it’s basically the sauce they normally use as a base being repurposed to become a garnish, and it doesn’t quite work.’

The Ultimate Carbonara Pizza was hailed ‘top notch’ by Metro staff (Picture: Metro.co.uk)

The Ultimate Carbonara Pizza, 4/5

What’s on it?

The second pizza is Carbonara, but not in the traditional sense. Instead of guanciale, they’ve used smoked bacon as a topping, and they’ve added mushrooms. (Look away, Stanley Tucci!)

It also features a creamy cheese sauce and mozzarella cheese.

What’s the verdict?

First-person and opinions editor Jess Austin thought this one lived up to its namesake, and was pleased it didn’t just ‘taste like a lacklustre margarita with one or two extra toppings’.

She continued: ‘I could happily eat a slice or two, but I think that’s where I’d draw the line (and I can usually smash a whole pizza in one sitting).

‘Even towards the end of slice one, the creamy sauce started to taste like those plasticky sheets of cheese (you know the ones), and its texture became unpleasant. They’ve made the sauce claggy, and I found it coating my teeth.’

But for head of social video, Alex Goldsmith, Domino’s is on to a winner with this one. Alex was a ‘big big fan’ of the Ultimate Carbonara Pizza, giving it a confident 4/5 ranking.

‘It’s not too sickly or creamy,’ she adds. ‘I feel like people try and do too much when they are “inspired by” carbonara, but that was top notch for me.’

The Creme Egg Cookies were a little leaky… (Picture: Metro.co.uk)

Creme Egg Cookies, 3/5

Whats in it?

A plain cookie dough with an entire Cadbury Creme Egg stuffed inside. These are served warm so that the middle is melty and gooey, as you’d want it to be. For £8.99 you get a pair of cookies.

What’s the verdict?

Jess boldly claimed the cookies were better than the iconic deep fried Creme Egg, as she found them ‘less sickening’.

‘I’ve had a deep fried Creme Egg before and I prefer this. It feels less sickening, and I honestly find the gooey centre even better when hot. Not that it looks that appealing,’ she states.

‘I’m not going to go out of my way to order it, but I would eat it again (and then buzz for hours on the sugar contents).’

Despite having a massive sweet tooth, Courtney also found the cookies a bit much.

‘There’s nothing better than a hot cookie fresh from the oven, where the chocolate is gloriously glossy. This gives you that experience, but for me the goo of the Creme Egg ruins the whole thing because of it’s weird texture when heated up. There’s a reason fondant is usually eaten cold.’

Ross also wasn’t keen, adding: ‘Attempting to get this abomination into my mouth, I’m reminded of the iconic Jeff Goldblum quote from Jurassic Park – “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”

‘Of course, with modern technology, you can stuff an entire Creme Egg into a Domino’s cookie, go viral on social media, and then get curious people to try it, but that doesn’t mean you ought to.

‘This doesn’t even nearly work. It’s an assault on your teeth, your blood-sugar levels, and frankly your state of mind. It burnt the top of my mouth to oblivion, and made me question whether I even liked food.’

Ross wanted to give the cookies a 1/5 but as others enjoyed them more we felt this wasn’t completely fair. We’ve rated them 3/5, losing points for being too sweet, and for the goo leaking out of the cookie before we could try them.

Have you tried the new Domino’s experimental pizza? What did you think?Comment Now

The new Domino’s items are available to order now and in addition to the two Ultimate Pizzas, the fast food chain has also added a new Ultimate Cheesy Garlic Bread that’s sure to be a hit with carb lovers everywhere.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try this item, but social media users are already loving it. @Linzi_lockett claimed it was ‘nicer than pizza’, and @PowerBoar said they were ‘horny’ for it.

If a comment like that doesn’t sell it, we’re not sure what will…
