Tak sempat seludup 600kg daun ketum ke negara jiran

Kangar: Sebanyak 600 kilogram (kg) daun ketum diisi dalam 54 bungkusan plastik hitam bernilai RM108,000 dirampas Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia (APMM) Zon Maritim Kuala Perlis di Kuala Perlis, di sini, petang semalam.

Pengarah APMM Zon Maritim Kuala Perlis, Komander Maritim Mohd Shafie Paing berkata, kejadian berlaku sekitar 6.20 petang di kedudukan 0.1 batu nautika dari barat pantai Kurung Tengar, Kuala Perlis.

Beliau berkata, rampasan dijalankan hasil maklumat risikan dilakukan berkaitan sindiket tempatan yang dilihat semakin aktif melakukan aktiviti menyeludup keluar daun ketum ke negara jiran berikutan terdapat kebenaran pengambilan ketum secara terbuka di Thailand.

“Berikutan itu, sebuah bot peronda APMM diatur gerak untuk melakukan pengesanan dan serbuan menerusi Op Benteng Laut di perairan Perlis, semalam.

“Ketika rondaan dilaksanakan, anggota kami mengesan dua individu mencurigakan yang dilihat baru selesai meletakkan bungkusan plastik hitam disyaki mengandungi daun ketum di pesisir pantai.

“Suspek dilihat menunggu untuk diambil oleh bot ‘transporter’ bagi tujuan aktiviti penyeludupan ke negara jiran melalui jalan laut,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan kepada media, hari ini.

Beliau berkata, suspek yang menyedari pergerakan mereka dikesan apabila bot APMM semakin menghampiri pesisir pantai terus melarikan diri meninggalkan bungkusan plastik hitam itu di lokasi kejadian.

Menurutnya, pemeriksaan menemukan 54 bungkusan plastik hitam mengandungi bungkusan kecil disyaki daun ketum dengan anggaran berat 600kg dipercayai akan diseludup ke Thailand.

“Siasatan mendapati sindiket dipercayai memaklumkan kepada bot ‘transporter’ mengenai kehadiran penguat kuasa di lokasi kejadian.

“Malah, kami mendapati sindiket ini memantau pergerakan bot penguat kuasa yang sentiasa melakukan rondaan ketat di kawasan perairan sempadan Malaysia-Thailand,” katanya.

Beliau berkata, bekalan daun ketum ini dipercayai cuba diseludup ke Thailand kerana mempunyai permintaan tinggi di negara berkenaan.

Menurutnya, kebenaran penggunaan secara terbuka oleh kerajaan Thailand mendorong aktiviti penyeludupan melalui jalan laut menjadi semakin aktif.

Katanya, semua rampasan dibawa ke Jeti APMM Zon Maritim Kuala Perlis untuk diserahkan kepada pegawai penyiasat bagi tindakan lanjut.

“Kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 30(3) Akta Racun 1952 kerana penyalahgunaan ketum termasuk mengimport, menjual, memproses dan lain-lain berkaitan bahan berkenaan.

“Sabit kesalahan boleh dikenakan hukuman denda tidak lebih daripada RM10,000 atau penjara sehingga empat tahun atau kedua-duanya.

“Ini adalah rampasan ke-13 membabitkan daun ketum pada tahun ini bagi APMM Zon Maritim Kuala Perlis dengan jumlah berat keseluruhan 6,155kg dan nilai RM1,124,900,” katanya.
