How Titans swooped in and stole Calvin Ridley from Jaguars

After it looked like they weren’t one of the finalists for wide receiver Calvin Ridley in free agency, the Tennessee Titans swooped in and landed what is one of the team’s biggest additions this offseason.

Thanks to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, we now have some inside info about how it all went down.

Ridley was fully expected to re-sign with the Jaguars before the Titans pivoted back to the wideout after being unsuccessful in other ventures, according to Schultz.

But it was general manager Ran Carthon who sealed the deal. He got on the phone with Ridley and told him “you’re going to love the way we treat you inside this building,” while also citing their mutual Florida connection.

Halfway through that call, Ridley was sold and told Carthon he would sign in Tennessee. By the way, Schultz adds that the Jags were offering “dollar-for-dollar” what the Titans were offering, yet Ridley still chose Nashville.

Check out Schultz breaking it all down in the clip below, and Ridley appears to confirm that’s how it all happened with his reply in the comments.

The signing of Ridley was fantastic in and of itself, but knowing that he chose the Titans over the Jaguars despite having the same offer from both teams only makes it better.
