Draymond Green forecasts Bronny James' game in the NBA

USC Trojans guard Bronny James.

It’s easy to write off Bronny James on account of his freshman season at USC. The son of LeBron James averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Trojans and his undersized frame —  he’s not built like his father — doesn’t help his case, either.

But James being written off could be the best thing for him. Jimmy Butler was not highly scouted after he averaged 5.6 points as a freshman at Marquette. Jalen Brunson won two NCAA titles and still dropped to the second round in the NBA Draft. Those players had the last laugh.

James could benefit from the tempered expectations, according to Draymond Green, who wasn’t highly scouted entering the 2012 NBA Draft as well.

On the latest “The Draymond Green Show,” the Warriors star said James could, at the very least, turn into a serviceable 3-and-D option in the NBA.

“At worst, Bronny is an NBA-level defender that can knock a shot down,” Green said. “A 3-and-D guy — we got those all over the NBA. He can pressure the ball… he can be a backup point guard that can pick up full-court and put pressure on another team’s lead guard.”

To Green’s latter point about James being a defensive-minded guard, some have compared Bronny to the Bucks’ Patrick Beverley.

Green also supported James’ decision to enter the NBA Draft even as some have called for the LeBron namesake to spend another year in college.

“I think it’s a smart move for him to go in this draft because this draft is basura,” Green opined. “This draft will probably go down as one of the worst in history from a top-talent standpoint… If I’m Bronny, I’m taking that into account. I can move up higher because of the lack of talent.”

For a projected second-round pick in this year’s draft, Bronny James is arguably the most hyped collegiate prospect ever. That’s obviously for no fault of his own — it’s his name.
