A mother who was stabbed to death while pushing her baby in a pram in Bradford has been pictured for the first time.

Kulsuma Akter, who was 27, is seen wearing a red sari and gold jewellery, traditional Bangladeshi wedding garments, alongside her 25-year-old husband Habibur Masum, who has been charged with her murder.

Mr Masum, of Leamington Avenue, Burnley, is also charged with possession of a bladed article.

He appeared at Bradford magistrates’ court on Thursday and was remanded in custody following a six-minute hearing.

Mr Masum stood in the glass-fronted dock as he was addressed by District Judge Alex Boyd. Clean-shaven, dressed in a grey sweatshirt and flanked by three security guards, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Masum was arrested in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, 170 miles from Bradford, in the early hours of Tuesday following a four-day search.

Five other people have been arrested in connection to the crime. Four of the men, aged 23, 26, 28 and 29, were arrested in Aylesbury and are currently in custody.

Mr Masum will appear at Bradford Crown Court on Friday.

West Yorkshire Police has also referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct because officers had contact with Akter before her death, a force spokesman confirmed.
