A sudden storm cell battered parts of Sydney’s southwest last night with wind gusts of up to 100km per hour.

Roads were closed and power lines brought down in the Camden and Elderslie area, as south-westerly winds brought chaos late on Friday night.

SES crews responded to 18 calls for help with the storm peaking between 7pm and 10pm.

Crews worked late into the night to restore power across Camden and Elderslie.

Despite the intense wind and abrupt rain that shook residents overnight, there were no reports of major property damage or injury.

Today the weather remains cloudy across Sydney, with a 30 per cent chance of showers remaining through the evening, according the Bureau of Meteorology.

There is a chance of thunderstorms again this afternoon for the city’s west, but with much milder winds predicted to reach only 25km per hour.
