Ronnie O'Sullivan continues hot streak by beating Judd Trump to win his third World Grand Prix title... with the Rocket fighting back from 6-3 down to win 10-7 in final

Ronnie O’Sullivan fought back from 6-3 down to beat a stunned Judd Trump 10-7 and win his third World Grand Prix title in Leicester on Sunday night.

O’Sullivan won six straight frames — and 10 of the last 13 — and has now won the Shanghai Masters, UK Championship and the Masters this season.

‘I enjoyed that, I really did,’ said O’Sullivan, who claimed Trump is his favourite to win this year’s World Championship.

‘I managed to nick a few frames this afternoon. 5-3 gave me a bit of optimism and I thought I’ll come out and just see what happens.’

The Rocket, who once again questioned his future in the sport this week, initially showed little of the form that saw him blast into the final with a 6-1 demolition of Ding Junhui in Saturday’s semi-final.

I enjoyed that tonight. It’s always a tough game against Judd, hes an exceptional player. But I did have fun tonight. Thanks again to the fans! I hope we entertained you and you enjoyed it this week 👍🏼 pic.twitter.com/fRHwnty1oj

Trump stormed into a 4-0 lead, but ended the afternoon session leading 5-3. After Trump won the first frame of the evening, O’Sullivan showed why he is still the sport’s most fearsome adversary.

While he was far from his fluent best, he won the next four frames thanks to his usual combination of magic, mastery of the cue ball, grit and fine safety play to lead for the first time at 7-6.

With O’Sullivan 51-0 up in frame 14, a missed red to the bottom left corner let his opponent in. After a 48 break, Trump needed the final black to win the frame, but his face fell as he left the ball agonisingly over the pocket. O’Sullivan sprang out of his seat to go 8-6 up.

In a final without a century break, O’Sullivan again pounced on a key miss, this time a brown which rattled the jaws of the corner pocket.

And while fans briefly had hope of a thrilling finale when Trump pulled one back, O’Sullivan was in no mood to let him back in and claimed his fourth title of the season.

‘I think his safety was a lot better tonight. He was getting in first and scoring a bit heavier,’ a rueful Trump said.
