Supreme Court hears Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against arrest
The Supreme Court on Tuesday commenced a hearing on jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging his March 21 arrest by the Enforcement Directorate linked to the liquor policy case. A two-judge bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta are hearing the matter.
While senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party supremo, the Enforcement Directorate was represented by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju.
Tuesday’s hearing came days after the Supreme Court on May 3Â indicated that it may decide to grant interim bail to Kejriwal because of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
“This case may take time. But if the case takes time, we may consider the question of interim bail because of the elections,” the bench said..
“We will hear you on Tuesday next week (May 7) and be prepared on the point of interim bail to him because of elections.”
