M62, near Rochdale
Drivers in Yorkshire and Manchester can expect delays along a busy part of the M62 over the next two weekends.
National Highways is carrying out emergency repairs to four drain covers in lane one of the westbound carriageway between junction 20 for Rochdale and Oldham and junction 19 at Heywood. It means there will be delays on the motorway while work is done between 8pm on Friday (February 16) and 5am on Monday (February 19) and again from 8pm on Friday, February 23, until 5am on Monday, February 26.
It will see lane one shut westbound during the day on the Saturdays and Sundays and then with lanes one and two closed overnight on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
The mountings for the manhole covers are worn and need repairs to stop them collapsing and making the road unsafe for drivers. National Highways staff will carry out other maintenance, inspections and cleaning, during the closure.
Drivers heading westbound towards Manchester from other parts of Greater Manchester and Yorkshire are being urged to make more time for their journeys.
It comes as full carriageway closures are in place this weekend along the M67 between Denton and Hyde in Tameside – part of the Manchester to Sheffield trans-Pennine route. Overnight lane closures are also in place over the next two weekends along the A616 between Stocksbridge and Flouch, also part of the Manchester to Sheffield trans—Pennine route.
