Apple is gearing up to revamp its entire Mac lineup with a new series of AI-based M4 processors. With this, the tech giant aims to inject fresh vitality into its Mac business. People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg the new M4 processor is on the verge of production, with plans to incorporate it into every Mac model. At the end of this year, we might see AI-powered computers from Apple. Here is everything we know so far.

While M3-focused computers were released just last October, Apple isn’t expected to take very long to release its M4-based devices. The company’s foray into artificial intelligence has been perceived as trailing behind competitors such as Microsoft and Google, prompting the tech giant to integrate AI capabilities into its product ecosystem.

The rollout of the M4 Macs is tipped to commence late this year and extend into early 2025. Before this year’s end, we could see refreshed iMacs, a 14-inch MacBook Pro catering to the lower end, alongside high-end iterations of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and the ever-popular Mac minis. This reflects Apple’s strategy to maintain consumer interest and sales momentum with timely refresh cycles akin to smartphones. Looking ahead to 2025, anticipation mounts with a wave of releases. Spring might bring M4-powered 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models promising enhanced performance. Mid-year, attention shifts to the much-anticipated Mac Studio.Â

The M4 chip lineup will be seamlessly integrated with the next iteration of macOS, which is set to be unveiled at Apple’s annual developer conference in June. In addition to hardware upgrades, Apple is contemplating expanding memory support for its highest-end Mac desktops, potentially allowing up to a half-terabyte of memory. The high-end Mac desktops could come with up to 512GB of RAM option, which is up from the current limit of 192GB as per reports.

“The M4 chip line includes an entry-level version dubbed Donan, more powerful models named Brava and a top-end processor codenamed Hidra. The company is planning to highlight the AI processing capabilities of the components and how they’ll integrate with the next version of macOS, which will be announced in June at Apple’s annual developer conference,” the reports stated.
