Stranded Passengers Back in WA
Right, another big story we got at six. Some of the Air France passengers who probably never dreamed of visiting the Canadian tundra are back in Seattle this evening, their days long ordeal finally over. Those travelers left Paris, France at 1:31 AM our time yesterday morning. They were scheduled to arrive here before noon, but the flight was forced to make an emergency landing in northern Canada. That’s after passengers reported a burning smell in the cabin. Now that was at 8:44 AM and they were stuck there until 7:48 last night when they were finally flown to New York. They landed at JFK just before 11:00 last night, where they were stuck until ten O 6 this morning when some of them finally took off for Seattle. Now Kyra 7’s Deborah Horn was the only reporter at the gate when those passengers landed. That was just before 3:45 this afternoon. Huge smiles on their faces. She joins us now live. And Deborah, a lot of relief people now back at SEA. My goodness, Monique, I feel relieved. And I wasn’t even on this flight. It was an amazing sight. You know, many of these passengers tell us they have slept for just a few hours over the last day and a half. And so. But one thing that they all now share, they all have amazing stories to tell. Tell us about it. How are you doing? I’m tired. It took me 49 hours to get from where I left to home. And it’s nice to be home. Mark Mcdade is one of scores of people with a stunning story. Stranded on an Air France flight, forced to make an emergency landing yesterday morning when passengers say a heat smell filled the cabin. Did you smell the smoke? No, no. But we lost all internal power. Electrical power. The plane didn’t lose any power, but the like the lights and the seating and you’re the audio video system. Everything went out in the entire plane as you were in the air. Yes. Yeah, we were 38,000 feet somewhere in the Arctic, Yes. So we coasted in. But what were you feeling then? They were very calm. So we were fine. We were just, yeah, it was all good. We we were on day three of our trip. So on our flights, that direct flight from Paris, France took an unexpected detour to Nunavut in northern Canada. Spanaway passenger Huck Finn, yes that’s his given name, took this photograph of the disabled Boeing 787 Dreamliner as they were being bused to the small terminal in that tiny town. What were you feeling then? Honestly, this isn’t the first emergency landing I’ve had. So I was like, great. I get to add another one to my belt. Remind me never to fly with him. Well, you know, we’ve been telling you a lot about Catherine Beatty. That’s a metro bus driver who was stranded as well and for time did not have her medication. Well, her daughter told me just about an hour ago that she finally left JFK airport at 5:00, our time that she should arrive here at SEA by 11:00 tonight and not a moment too soon. Reporting live at SEA airport. Deborah Horn, Cairo 7 News.
