The list of necessary equipment for Ukrainian soldiers can be very long. However, three key items can be highlighted – ammunition, air defense systems, and long-range missiles, states Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
“As for the weapons needed, the list can be very long. But there are three key positions: ammunition, air defense systems, long-range missiles,” said the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to him, if Ukrainian military forces have these positions in sufficient quantities and promptly, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to defeat Russia on the battlefield and end this war.
Shortage of shells
Recently, Ukrainian military forces have been experiencing a shortage of artillery shells due to supply problems from the US, which directly affects the situation on the front lines. In particular, the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently had to withdraw from Avdiivka.
However, the European Union has promised to help Ukraine with shells. In early May 2023, the EU Council adopted a decision to assist Ukraine with one billion euros for joint purchases of ammunition and missiles.
It was planned that European countries would provide Ukraine with one million shells by March 2024. However, the EU was unable to meet the deadlines, so they continued to work on this issue.
In February, Czech President Petr Pavel announced that Prague had found 800,000 shells abroad for Ukraine, but they need assistance with funding to ensure these deliveries.
Recently, Britain and Spain announced packages of military support, which will include artillery shells.
