We told you some big records were being smashed this year and we were NOT joking around. The record for most number of songs to appear in a single year by one artist has been broken by none other than G Flip!

Between ‘7 Days’ at #80, and ‘The Worst Person Alive’ at #2, the Melbourne multi-instrumentalist clocked in a whopping seven appearances from their 2023 award-winning album, DRUMMER.

This also means that they’ve beaten longtime record holders Wolfmother, who set the record way back in 2005 with their ‘Joker and the Thief’ era.

Nobody had held a candle to them until 2022, when Spacey Jane shone their hardlight on Andrew Stockdale and friends and went on to match their record.

But now both bands have been left in the dust by an ARIA and J Award-winning, footy loving, reality tv-starring, afterparty-throwing queer non-binary legend.

A second record in sight

And that’s not the only big move by G Flip in the Hottest 100 record books.

With these seven entries they’ve now slid into tied third place for most entries of ALL TIME. G now has 19 entries in total, flipping them over Spacey Jane (again) and Billie Eilish to put them hot on the tails of Hilltop Hoods for most career Hottest 100 appearances.

Art is imitating life for G, with the twenties being a wild success for them. They clocked a chunk of their appearances between #26 and #22 this year before rounding it all out with an impressive podium finish.

G Flip debuted in the Hottest 100 back in 2018 with ‘Killing My Time’ (#62) and ‘About You’ (#62). They haven’t missed a countdown since, with four tracks in 2019’s list, three in 2020, one in 2021 and two in 2022. Plus a couple of features with Baker Boy (‘My Mind’, #88 2021) and Illy (‘Loose Ends’ #95 2020) for good measure.

G’s also came in at #22 in the Like A Version Hottest 100 in 2023, really driving home their impact on our lives, playlists and ears.

Flip back in time

G Flip burst out of the gates back in 2018 when they uploaded their debut solo track ‘About You’ onto Unearthed the day before Valentine’s in 2018. The shockwaves it sent across not only the site and the rest of triple j but the whole country was palpable.

More than 15,000 people checked out their Unearthed page in that first week, including folks in 73 (!!!) different countries. Their DIY video for ‘About You’ clocked more than 120,000 views and was immediately added to the ‘New Music This Week’ playlist.

It looks like 2024 is set to be just as big for G Flip. With a Like A Version performance of ‘Cruel Summer’ that’s taken the internet by storm (and ), they’ve set their intentions pretty damn high.

Backing up their huge Hottest 100 outing, G Flip is currently in London with three sold out shows in their diary. They’ll then head home for Party In The Paddock and Great Southern Nights, go *back* over to the US for an extensive tour and an appearance at the Governors Ball in New York.

G Flip has not taken their foot off the accelerator since and it seems they have no plans to slow down, either.

  • #80 — ‘7 Days’
  • #65 — ‘Real Life’
  • #50 — ‘Australia’
  • #26 — ‘Rough’
  • #24 — ‘Good Enough’
  • #22 — ‘Be Your Man’
  • #2 – ‘The Worst Person Alive’

The gauntlet has been laid and the bar has been set.

Congrats G Flip, you’ve truly earned this one.
