SSB: 35.3% of Norwegians have completed higher education

As of 2020, a total of 35.3% of Norwegians had completed higher education. The proportion of women with higher education is significantly higher than the proportion of men.

In Norway, higher education is tertiary education leading to an award of an academic degree. It is an optional final stage of formal learning that occurs after the completion of secondary education.

In total, the proportion with higher education has increased by 3.1% since 2015, Statistics Norway’s (SSB) annual survey “Population level of education” shows.

39.8% of women have completed higher education, compared with 30.8% of men.

The proportion of women is highest in almost all age groups, with the exception of the group 67 years and older. In the age groups of 25–29 years and 30–39 years, around 60% of the women had an education at the university and college level, compared with 40% of men.
