The Hyderabad crowd continued to shower its love on SRH captain Pat Cummins. On his 31st birthday, the Australian superstar cricketer was greeted by a loud roar when he walked out to the field at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium for warm-ups ahead of their IPL 2024 match against a visiting Lucknow team on Wednesday.Â
The cheers were loud so much so that Heinrich Klaasen, who was speaking to the broadcasters before the game, had to pause and allow the reception for Pat Cummins to end.Â

“I think it’s the captain walking out. Yeah, that will be fantastic. Now that the boys have already smashed a cake on his face, so hopefully we can smash another one on his face tonight. That would be fantastic,” Klaasen said, acknowledging the love and support for Pat Cummins in Hyderabad.Â

Fans turned up in large numbers for SRH’s home game against LSG — a crunch IPL 2024 clash that could be decisive in both the teams’ chances of reaching the playoffs. “Happy Birthday Silencer,” read a banner at the stands in Hyderabad as fans acknowledged how Cummins walked the talk during the World Cup final. The Australian captain had promised to silence the 100,000-strong Ahmedabad crowd on November 19 and he did so by leading Australia to a famous win over favourites India in the title match.Â
Cummins has enjoyed captaincy in the IPL, inspiring the SunRisers to become a fearsome batting unit. The freedom from Cummins and the team management has been one of the main reasons for SRH going after opposition bowling attacks and posting record totals, including 287 against RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.Â
Cummins has not set the stage on fire with his performances, but the SRH captain has chipped in with important contributions. The Australian fast bowler has taken 13 wickets in 11 matches so far in IPL 2024.Â
