Mandatory vaccination for Olympic athletes in the US

07:30 am All American athletes who want to participate in the Olympics must be vaccinated against the corona virus. This is stated in new guidelines drawn up by the American Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). The vaccination obligation does not only apply to athletes, but also to all coaches and staff members.

Last summer, more than 600 American athletes took part in the Tokyo Olympics, about 100 of which were unvaccinated. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had urged all participants to be vaccinated in advance, but did not make it mandatory.

The American athletes who want to participate in the Winter Games in Beijing early next year must all have taken a corona vaccine. The obligation is effective from November 1 and is also in effect at all USOPC training facilities. An exception is made for athletes and staff members with a medical or religious exemption. They must be tested daily for the coronavirus.
