Kannada actor-director Dwarakish, 81, dies in Bengaluru

Noted Kannada actor, producer and director Dwarakish died on Tuesday, April 16. According to reports, he died at his home in Bengaluru after complaining of respiratory issues. He was 81 years old. Dwarakish’s family is yet to share details regarding the funeral. Fans, friends and colleagues took to social media to pay tribute to the legend.Â

Indian cricketer Anil Kumar took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) page to remember Dwarakish. His post read, “Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor Dwarakish Sir – A doyen of Kannada film industry. Grew up watching his movies. His contribution to the film world will always be remembered (sic).”

Actor Pruthvi Ambaar shared a photo of Dwarakish and paid tribute. He wrote, “Om shanthi. Rest in peace sir #Dwarakish (sic).”

Dwarakish made his debut in the Kannada film industry as an actor with ‘Veera Sankalpa’ in 1964. He played a comedian in his maternal uncle, Hunsur Krishnamurthu’s film. Evently, he became a producer by floating his banner, Dwarakish Chitra, and bankrolled more than 50 films.Â

His first production venture  was ‘Mayor Muthanna’, which marked his first collaboration with Dr Rajkumar and director Siddalingaiah. The film became a blockbuster and is regarded as a classic.Â

Dwarakish and actor Dr Vishnuvardhan collaborated on many projects and gave many memorable films for their fans.  Some of them include ‘Kalla Kulla, ‘Kittu Puttu, ‘Apthamitra’, ‘Singaporenalli Raja Kulla, and ‘Rayaru Bandaru Mavana Manege’, amongst others.Â

Dwarakish also directed in 19 films and also acted in many projects.Â
