South Limburg is looking for contact center employees: ‘Customers experience soft g as pleasant’

In South Limburg, employers are looking for employees in customer service. Contact centers are present in increasing numbers because the Dutch are increasingly shopping online. The South Limburg region is also popular for these centers.

The region already has some 6000 jobs in about 30 contact centers – so called because a large part of the contact is now via chat and no longer via telephone. Zara, Vodafone, Mercedes and DHL, among others, organize their customer service from South Limburg.

The region is attractive for contact centers because of its location, says Marieke Kraak of Customer Service Valley. “Because it is a border area, there are many multilingual staff available. There are also many international students.”

According to Kraak, it is increasingly common for contact centers to operate for several countries at the same time. “In Limburg, for example, there is a contact center of a large clothing chain where they serve about eight European countries.”

Dennis Baetens, commercial director at Custom Connect, also thinks that this has to do with the Limburg dialect. “The Limburg dialect ensures that you speak with a soft g and many customers experience that as very pleasant.”

To meet this increasing demand for employees, the UWV has set up a special training course.
