Leeds United mob one another after sealing the third goal against Leicester City on Friday night

Twenty-two days had passed since Connor Roberts arrived at Leeds United, but he’s already become a key voice in the dressing room. The 28-year-old is a veteran of four Championship seasons, including a title and two play-off campaigns, so he knows his way around the second tier.

Roberts might still be waiting for a full debut, but he was the third-oldest player in Friday’s dressing room and a key voice on a monumental night in the title race. The loanee’s experience is one of the reasons Daniel Farke wanted him at Elland Road for this run-in.

“[It was] a fantastic occasion,” he said after the match. “In the dressing room before the game, I said to the lads ‘It’s going to be exciting, relish it, enjoy it and bring yourself to the game.’

“Luckily for me, delighted to get on to start with and when I came to Leeds I said I wanted to help. Today, I helped more than enough, coming on and getting the goal.”

Roberts would score the decisive goal on a night that was going one way until he popped up inside the box. Archie Gray, the teenager currently keeping Roberts out of the team, also delivered the second goal of the night.

The two full-backs’ impact was immense, but Roberts provided some insight into what kind of message their manager was giving the team after such a win.

“The manager in there said ‘No matter what, at the end of the season, if we achieve what we all set out to achieve and what we all came here to achieve, then no one remembers who scores the goals, who plays the most minutes and things like that,’” said Roberts.

“It’s a collective and it’s Leeds United that have got promoted and, hopefully, there’s a long way to go, but hopefully we can do that come the end of the season.”
