Sony has launched a high-tech gadget- a futuristic body air conditioner that you can carry anywhere. You can tuck the portable AC into the back of your shirt. This innovative technology has the potential to offer an alternative to traditional hand fans.
Reon Pocket 5, Sony’s ‘smart wearable thermo device kit’ was released on April 23. Reon Pocket 5 is a wearable climate control system that can provide personalised comfort on the go.
You can wear a Reon pocket at the back of your neck, where the device will utilise a thermos module and a suite of sensors (temperature, humidity, and motion) to determine your ideal temperature.
What does Reon Pocket 5 offer?
With the Reon Pocket 5 you can get five cooling levels for hot days and four warming levels for cooler environments. This feature makes it adaptable to various situations such as crowded trains and chilly airplane cabins. It is believed that the device can be also paired with the included Reon Pocket Tag.
From what is understood, Reon Pocket Tag is a small and wearable tag that functions like a remote sensor. This tag can detect your surrounding conditions and send the report to the neck unit for proactive temperature adjustments. While the Reon Pocket 5 works independently, working on your body temperature, the Reon tag can provide you with a more comprehensive approach to personalised comfort.
How to get your hands on Reon Pocket 5?
You can now pre-orders the Reon Pocket 5 on Sony’s website, at a cost of 139 pounds ($170 USD or about Rs 15,000). The pre-orders will be shipped on May 15th. The package, “Reon 5T,” will have Reon Pocket 5, a Reon Pocket Tag and a white neckband. For those wanting a touch more style, Sony offers a beige neckband for an additional 25 pounds.

“The air vent for business style extends up to the height of the collar, matching the shape of the neck and back, while the other is shorter for casual style to match the low collar, both of which allow for efficient airflow,” Sony explained in a press release. The new REON POCKET 5 will be available in Singapore from May 2024 and available in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam later, as per insights from Sony.
