12 minutes into Luton Town F.C.’s Championship play-off final vs. Coventry City, Tom Lockyer collapsed on the field and had to be stretchered off.
But that didn’t stop the team’s captain from celebrating Luton’s incredible rise to the Premier League.
Thankfully, Lockyer appears to be okay and a photo of him cheering from his hospital bed began to go viral after the match; which brought manager Rob Edwards to tears.
“More than sport,” a user replied.
“Love this!” a fan said.
“Big ups Luton for your promotion!”
“If this isn’t what a proper Leader/Manager looks like, nothing is,” another tweeted. “Genuine, raw emotion. Class act.”
“Hope Tom is ok and gets to play in the Premier League,” another person commented.
“Football at its best, big up the Luton.”
Lockyer has been crucial to Luton’s success all season. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t suffer from any long-term effects as doctors continue to monitor his situation.
