The Idol is the explosive new drama series on Max that network executives are hoping will become the ‘next Eupohria’ – and summer’s biggest hit.
Like the hit HBO drama show, the program has creator and director Sam Levinson at the helm and promises to feature many of the sex, drugs and gratuitous scenes that he has become known for.
However, reports suggest Levinson might have taken things too far with his new project.
Initially, all signs indicated that the drama – which promises to tell the ‘sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood’ – would instantly capture in the interest of TV fans and pop culture enthusiasts thanks to an all-star casting including Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd – Abel Tesfaye.
But in a bombshell expose released by Rolling Stone, whistleblowers slammed the show’s sex scene resembled ‘sexual torture porn’ and they criticized Levinson’s creative leadership.
Meanwhile, critics have been ruthless in their assessment of the first few episodes with many branding the projects as ‘disturbing’ and ‘toxic’.
