Slain NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller posthumously promoted to detective

The hero NYPD cop who was gunned down during a traffic stop has been posthumously promoted to detective, police brass said Saturday.

Officer Jonathan Diller, 31, who was killed Monday during a routine traffic stop in Queens, received the promotion at his funeral service at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa, where NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban honored the fallen cop.

Diller’s new badge number is 110, Caban said, in a nod tohis 1-year-old son Ryan’s birthday.

“My husband died a hero, but he also lived as one,” said Diller’s widow, Stephanie, who eulogized the fallen officer as a relative stood behind her holding Ryan.

Diller’s death is “devastating,” said Stephanie, recalling anecdotes from their courtship, as well as the late cop’s childhood.

“Rest in peace Jonathan, the man who captured my heart and now all of New York’s,” she told mourners.

Officer Jonathan Diller, 31, received the promotion at his funeral service in Massapequa, where NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban honored the fallen cop.

She called for massive change within New York’s criminal justice system.

“How many more police officers and how many more families have to make the ultimate sacrifice before we start protecting them?” she asked. “When the gates of heaven open for me, I hope I will see Jonathan standing there, looking at me like he did on our wedding day.”

The first word uttered by the couple’s young son was “dada,” Stephanie tearfully recalled.

“Now I never want to stop hearing Ryan ‘dada’ to me,” she said.

Thousands of police officers — including NYPD cops and others from New Jersey and Connecticut — flooded the Long Island church with flower arrangements ahead of the funeral, including one sent by former President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry also attended Saturday’s service for the three-year police veteran.

Diller made “dozens and dozens” of arrests during his brief career, Caban said.

Adams, meanwhile, praised the officer’s relentless bravery despite being wounded in the stomach.

“Even after he had been shot … he fought, and took the gun away from the person who would take his life,” Adams said. “The outpouring of grief for this young man is real, and it is raw.”

Suspect Guy Rivera, 34, was hurt when Diller’s partner returned fire as the ex-con sat in a car idling at a bus stop in Far Rockaway on Monday.

Rivera, who has 21 prior arrests, remains held without bail on charges of murder of a police officer, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said.
