Skeletal remains found at DOJ construction site

Skeletal remains were found at a construction site within the compound of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila Thursday afternoon.

The skull and other bone fragments were found at the site of a four-storey building being constructed behind the main building of the DOJ, Super Radyo dzBB’s Luisito Santos reported.

“Merong mga skeletal remains na narecover because of the ongoing construction. Syempre, like any, we treat it like a crime scene. So pinatawag natin ang NBI ngayon to look into it,” Justice Undersecretary Brigido Dulay said in an interview.

(There were skeletal remains recovered because of the ongoing construction. Of course, we want to treat it like any crime scene. So we called on the NBI to look into it.)

He said Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remilla immediately ordered them to investigate the skeletal remains.

When asked if there were other skeletal remains recovered before, Dulay said he cannot answer based on his personal knowledge.

“Kasi kapapasok lang namin. So historically I don’t know kung merong before our time kung may nahukay. But we’re just treating this one, because of the incident, ito lang muna ang tinitignan namin,” he said.

(Because we’re new here, so historically, I don’t know if there were others before our time. But we’re just looking at this incident for now.)

In 2009, construction workers also uncovered human skeleton parts while doing excavation activities at the DOJ, including two skulls that were believed to have been buried more than 25 years ago.—Joahna Lei Casilao/AOL, GMA Integrated News
