Familiar language of police statement slammed READ MORE: 'Favourite' granddaughter's anger at cops
A single word in the police statement announcing the death of Tasered grandmother Clare Nowland – ‘peacefully’ – has sparked outrage on social media, given she died after she was allegedly hit with a 50,000 volt Taser blast.
The NSW Police Force announced the death of Mrs Nowland, 95, on Wednesday evening, a week after she was Tasered, allegedly by Senior Constable Kristian White, at the dementia sufferer’s aged care facility in Cooma, in the Snowy Mountains.
‘It is with great sadness we confirm the passing of 95-year-old Clare Nowland in Cooma tonight,’ the official statement posted to Facebook said.
‘Mrs Nowland passed away peacefully in hospital just after 7pm this evening, surrounded by family and loved ones who have requested privacy during this sad and difficult time.

The official statement said Clare Nowland (above), 95, passed away ‘peacefully’ – after she was Tasered by a NSW police officer a week before
‘Our thoughts and condolences remain with those who were lucky enough to know, love and be loved by Mrs Nowland during a life she led hallmarked by family, kindness and community’.
The familiar language of the statement has sparked uproar on social media – something the police force appeared to be trying to avoid, by switching comments on the post off.
But it was the word ‘peacefully’ that sparked the most anger.
After being jolted, Mrs Nowland fell over, hit her head and suffered a bleed on the brain, according to the police version of events. She then spent a week in end-of-life care before passing.
‘To describe this as ‘passed away peacefully is macabre,’ tweeted campaigner Holly Creenaune.
‘As a result of being tasered violently by NSW Police, Mrs Nowland ‘passed away peacefully surrounded by family’ according to NSW Police,’ said Michele Colvin McKenzie.
‘Nothing about this was ‘peaceful’,’ said Dr Bianca Fileborn.

The death of Mrs Nowland has sparked the first crisis of Commissioner Karen Webb’s leadership
A fourth Twitter user said: ‘Passed peacefully’ (after being tasered by a NSW police officer and cracking her skull as she fell)…but okay.
Another said: ‘If only you had been able to finish your long life peacefully. If only police were taught how to handle more situations ‘peacefully’.
A sixth said: ‘There are times where it’s better to say nothing and when your organisation is (involved then this) is one of them.’
White has been charged with three offences, including recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault.
It is believed he will enter a not guilty plea.
