Signs of Russian preparations for nuclear weapon deployment: Pentagon's response

As of May 7, the Pentagon has seen no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons, even for training purposes, Deputy Pentagon Spokesperson Sabrina Singh reports in a video briefing.
Singh said that they see no reason to adjust the deployment of our nuclear forces. They have seen no indication that Russia is planning to use nuclear weapons.
At the same time, she emphasized that the United States considers Russia’s decision to conduct exercises to practice the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons absolutely irresponsible and potentially threatening to global security.
What preceded it
The day before yesterday, May 6, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had begun preparations for exercises involving the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons.
The United States responded to the Kremlin’s threatening rhetoric. Washington has advised Vladimir Putin to withdraw from Ukraine if he fears Western military assistance to Kyiv.
At the same time, ISW analysts noted that Russia has often used such threats during its full-scale invasion of Ukraine to force the West to stop providing military support to Kyiv.
