Ghostbusters franchise star Ernie Hudson is set for a key role in a new horror movie. The casting comes after the actor’s return to the big screen in the new sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Per Deadline, Ernie Hudson has been cast in the horror film Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole. He will play Oswald Jebediah Coleman, described as a brilliant animator who’s been “cast away to a bone-chilling magical prison.” The film’s synopsis adds, “After over 100 years of being trapped there, Oswald’s come-to-life cartoon rabbit is menacing, gruesome and out for blood.” A teaser trailer for the movie can be viewed below.

“I had a very specific vision for Oswald’s character and knew I wanted Ernie for this role from the start, as I’ve always admired iconic cinematic legacy,” director Lilton Stewart III said of casting the Oz actor. “Ernie is going to bring Oswald’s unique and vengeful spirit to life in the best way possible.”
Hudson added, “I am excited to work with everyone on this production. It’s an incredibly creative and smart project.”
The film will also star Topher Hall as Art, the grandson of Hudson’s Oswald. It picks up with Art and his brother, Evan (Yasha Rayzberg) as they embark on a journey to track down their family lineage, only to find themselves caught up in a “bloodcurdling nightmare” when they’re “transported to a place lost in time, shrouded by dark Hollywood magic.”

Ernie Hudson Wants More Than Just Cameo Roles
Ernie Hudson returned to his fan favorite role as Winston Zeddemore in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife before returning for the franchise’s newest installment, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. He’s also spoken about how he’s up for taking on a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he wouldn’t want a simple cameo, as he’s looking for more substantial roles at this point in his career.
“When I look back at things, I think about my grandkids and great-grandkids, and I think, you know, those are movies they’re gonna watch for a long time,” Hudson told ComicBook.com. “I just would love to work. A lot of the work I get offered is things that people say, well, you know, we love your work, we want you to be in it. But we only need you for a day or two, and I’m like, it shouldn’t work in a day or two. I’m looking for a role.”
He added, “I’m looking for something that and I want to, you know, romantic comedy where I get the girl or the guy or whatever. I want to work while I’m physically able and mentally capable of bringing them my best work. So that’s what I’m looking for. Just to get another credit for a couple of dollars, it’s really not that motivating for me. I’m good that way. So I’m looking for that, a reason to leave home.”
Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole doesn’t yet have a set release date.
