Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders beat Lucknow Super Giants by 98 runs in the IPL 2024 match played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday (May 5). KKR was invited to bat first by KL Rahul, and riding on Sunil Narine’s 81, the visitors posted a total of 235 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. It was the first time in IPL history that any team has managed to score 200+ runs in an inning. The 236-run target proved too much for the hosts, and they got all out for 137 runs in 16.1 overs.
By winning the 11th league stage match of IPL 2024 by 98 runs, KKR has now moved to No. 1 position in the points table, and the win also helped Shreyas Iyer go past Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 13 wins as KKR captain in the IPL and become the third most successful captain for the franchise in IPL history. KKR has won 14 out of 25 IPL matches played under Iyer’s leadership, whereas Ganguly won 13 out of 27 matches as KKR captain.
On the list of most successful captains for KKR in the IPL, only Gautam Gambhir (61 wins in 108 matches) and Dinesh Karthik (19 wins in 37 matches) are now ahead of Shreyas Iyer. Iyer won 7 matches as KKR captain in his first season (2022) and has won 8 out of 11 matches in the ongoing season.
