New Parliament Building Inauguration: Amid the massive political row over new Parliament building inauguration, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appealed to the Opposition parties to show a “big heart” and attend the ‘historic’ event. In a shot in the arm for the ruling BJP, 25 political outfits announced that they will participate in the inauguration, and these include seven non-NDA parties.

Meanwhile, around 20 Opposition parties, including the Congress have decided to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Modi.

In a major relief for the BJP-led NDA, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Shiromani Akali Dal, Janata Dal (Secular), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), YSR Congress, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have announced that they would attend the inauguration of the new Parliament house building on Sunday. The seven parties account for 50 MPs in the Lok Sabha.

Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, Janata Dal (United), Aam Aadmi Party, NCP, Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Samajwadi Party, RJD, CPI, IUML, JMM, National Conference, Kerala Congress (Mani), RSP, MDMK, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Rashtriya Lok Dal and Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM have decided to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament house building. The parties are of the opinion that the President of India should inaugurate the new Parliament house building and not PM Modi.

The parties which are opposing have maintained that President Droupadi Murmu should inaugurate the new Parliament building as she was not only the Head of State, but also summons, prorogues, and addresses the Parliament.

Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad appealed to the Opposition parties to attend the “historic day” of its inauguration by showing a “big heart”.
