Shirley Ballas teases Strictly 2023 line-up: 'Just when you thought it couldn't get better!'

Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas has teased the line-up for the 2023 series of the show as she declared: “Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better.”

The 62 year old English ballroom dancer has been the head judge on the hit BBC show for the last couple of years, but her future on it hangs in the balance.

It’s rumoured that Shirley could be leaving after admitting that the trolling last year took a toll on her mental health.

During an appearance on This Morning, host Holly Willoughby asked her: “You’re not thinking of not being there?”

Shirley Ballas has teased the line-up for Strictly Come Dancing 2023

Shirley refused to confirm whether she was planning on returning to the show.

She said: “Well, we’re waiting for that invitation and once it gets there and we sort out… I love the job, I love the actual critiquing.

“I love to get tips and help people along the way, to move forward to be beautiful dancers and all that they can be.”

“This year, I’ve got a wonderful gentleman called Harry Surplus who is doing my social media and he’s getting rid of any of those messages,” she said.

“My son checks over everything because it really did take a little toll on my mental health for a minute.”

Shirley was on the This Morning sofa to speak to Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond

She explained: “Last year I was struggling. It wasn’t just a little bit, it was a lot – the majority of it was in silence,”

“I felt the abuse snowballed out of control and impacted me in such a negative way. I’m a pretty stoic person, and I tend to hold everything in. When it all kicked off, it seemed like it was larger than anything else.”

She continued: “I was crying, I was emotional, but I was embarrassed about being so emotional. I didn’t want to talk to anybody about it.- And that was an all-time low since I joined the show – it was the most negativity I’d ever experienced.

Shirley didn’t confirm or deny if she would be returning to Strictly

“The BBC were brilliant, checking in on me and offering counselling and support.”

Holly reassured her: “You’re a brilliant judge,” before Shirley put on a brave face and bolstered the show’s line-up for 2023.

Shirley said: “But the line-up for sure.

“Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, it does. I’m just saying.”

Holly Willoughby admitted that she would be

Alison Hammond, who replaced Phillip Schofield on today’s show then suggested that Holly Willoughby sign up for this year’s show.

Holly said: “I always say this. I would love to do it but without it being filmed because I would die.”

She said: “I would be so embarrassed, I just would die, but I would love to learn how to dance properly. It’s magical.”

Shirley then offered to teach Holly a few steps.
