Sherwood Park Mall antique shop robbed early Saturday morning

Just after 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, two masked people broke through the glass door of the Cineplex entrance to the Sherwood Park Mall and robbed the Beck Antiques & Jewellery store.

Two masked people busted through the glass door of the Cineplex entrance to the Sherwood Park Mall and smashed their way into the Beck Antiques & Jewellery store just after 6 a.m. Saturday. 

Surveillance footage shows two people smashing open glass cases and taking coins, jewelry and antique bills.

The bandits also smashed a window display that was just created for the holiday season. They left the store two minutes after smashing the glass door.

Beck Antiques & Jewellery has only been inside the Sherwood Park Mall for about six months, said Clinton Beck, founder of Beck Antiques & Jewellery.

Beck says that in the 35 years that they have been in business robberies have happened in the past. He is thankful none of his employees were in the store.

“They never had a robbery like this at the mall so the security guards were traumatized and the maintenance people were traumatized,” said Beck.

Beck said that having his store robbed in a mall is unusual and unexpected and he will now have to ramp up security even more.

“We felt like the mall, especially Sherwood Park, would be a safer environment for us but there are no safe environments for us anymore so you have to be prepared all the time, unfortunately,” Beck said.

Beck said that the RCMP arrived very quickly and were given security footage. He is hopeful suspects will be arrested soon. He has also offered a $500 reward for any information about the crime.

“The criminals, I don’t think they realize how many people it affects and it really takes a lot of joy out of the season for the staff and for the mall. So many people are affected by this, the damage they did is probably 10 times what they actually stole,” said Beck.
