Sharp increase in number of injuries in Equinor reported

Equinor’s safety report for the second quarter shows a negative development in the number of injuries. The company has registered an increase in injuries of 70% in Q2 of 2021.

“No one should be injured while working for us… We are focusing on major accidents, at the same time as we work to reverse the trend for personal injuries,” Executive Vice President for Safety, Security, and Sustainability, Jannicke Nilsson said in a press release.

In the second quarter of this year, Equinor registered nine serious incidents, compared with twelve in the second quarter last year. On the other hand, an increase in injuries of 70% has been registered, from 53 in the second quarter last year to 90 in the same period this year, the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv writes.

Safety, security, and sustainability were established as a new functional area at the company after an organizational change on July 1 to strengthen safety work and prevent damage to people, the environment, and the communities Equinor is a part of.

“We learn from others. Sharing safety results and experiences is an important part of this work, as is a close dialogue with the authorities and shop stewards,” Nilsson said.
