Esterhuizen previously turned out for the Sharks, but currently plays for English Premiership side Harlequins. And although the midfielder’s contract with the club only expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, the Sharks are said to be willing to buy out the remainder of his contract with a massive release fee of £500,000 (R11 million).
This is according to Sunday newspaper Rapport, with the news outlet reporting that the Sharks are looking at Esterhuizen to replace fellow Springbok Rohan Janse van Rensburg, who is on his way to French side Bordeaux at the end of this season.
Additionally, the Sharks have also started negotiations to lure Springbok prop Trevor Nyakane back to Kings Park, but they are facing stiff competition for his signature from the Bulls, who are looking to bring the front rower back to Loftus Versfeld.
