Shark Tank India: OYO’s Ritesh Agarwal reacts as pitcher refuses his mammoth offer, says, ‘Kingmaker bhi hona chahiye’
OYO Rooms CEO Ritesh Agarwal must have been taken aback when a pitcher turned down his rather generous offer on a recent episode of Shark Tank India Season 3. While sharks and pitchers not entering into deals is not uncommon in the context of the show, this particular incident has grabbed the attention of many, especially since the pitcher turned down Agarwal’s offer, which was higher than what the former had initially asked for.
In a video of the said segment from the recent episode, which has since gone viral, Anupam Mittal can be seen initially proposing Rs 60 lakh for 10 per cent equity in Matri — a brand offering a portable and rechargeable gadget that claims to reduce menstrual pain — making a total valuation of Rs 6 crore. While Namita Thapar matches the offer, Vineeta Singh offers Rs 60 lakh for 6 per cent equity in the company. Hearing this, Mittal changes his offer and then extended Rs 60 lakh for 4 per cent equity.
As the episode unfolds, Aman Gupta offers Rs 60 lakh for 4 per cent equity, which is then matched by Namita. Amidst all this, Ritesh Agarwal tells the pitchers, “Mujhe lagta hai ki yeh meri zimmedari hai ki main aapko ek achha offer doon. Main aapko sirf 4 percent ka hi offer deta hoon… Par uske badle main aapko Rs 1 crore doonga (I feel it is my responsibility to make you a good offer. I offer you only 4 per cent, but in exchange, I will give you Rs 1 crore).” However, the founders Roni Mondal and Rohan Roy ask Namita if she would join Aman Gupta’s deal, ignoring Agarwal’s offer.
After the video went viral, Agarwal commented, “Koi baat nahi… Entrepreneur ki thodi valuation behtar karwa di (No problem, I was trying to improve the valuation of an entrepreneur), could be of some help that’s all that matters. I am there to help founders succeed and that is still happening. Sometimes kingmaker bhi hona chahiye 🙌 (Sometimes, one has to be a kingmaker too).”
Nevertheless, many have since come forward noting that the pitchers made a mistake by neglecting the OYO CEO’s offer. “Ritesh is the best shark… they are going to regret not choosing him,” one Instagrammer commented. “Ritesh is the most humble shark and a wonderful human being,” another one noted.
“Other Sharks’ Net Worth: 500-700 cr. Ritesh Agarwal’s net worth: 16000 cr 🔥🔥 No competition,” one netizen mentioned, while another recalled, “A former shark said, Hindustan mein kisi ko maths nahi aati.”
