Shaquille O’Neal, the most dominant force the NBA has ever seen, is throwing shade at the New Jersey Nets. Particularly, the 2002 Nets team that made it to the NBA Finals. It was in this season where New Jersey took on O’Neal’s Lakers. The big man averaged 27.2 PPG and 10.7 RPG during the regular season and he was feeling good heading into the playoffs.
For the entire postseason campaign, the Big Diesel took his game up a notch, going for 28.5 PPG and 12.6 RPG. These numbers were alien like, but once O’Neal reached the Finals, this was when things got interesting. The 4-time NBA Champion averaged 36 PPG and 12 RPG, not even giving the Nets a chance to win a game in the series.
In an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports on Scoop B Radio, O’Neal admitted that he felt disrespected by the Nets:
“It was boring,” said O’Neal on that Finals series in 2002. “I actually got mad when we were playing in Jersey. You think Todd McCollough is going to stop me at the crib in Jersey in front of my grandma and grandpa?….(Expletive) No. Stop it.”
