NYC-based content creator Carly revealed all her tips in a video posted to TikTok She explained how you can repurpose product you don't like into usable items Rivlin shared tips for reusing shampoos, cleansers, serums, and more
A beauty guru has revealed exactly how you can make the most out of the skincare and body products that you may regret purchasing.
The tips were shared in a TikTok video posted this week by NYC-based creator Carly Rivlin, who often posts beauty and fashion content online, sharing tips, tricks and product reviews.
In the clip, Rivlin explained how you can repurpose products you may not be too happy with – starting with shampoos.
‘First, if you have a shampoo that you don’t like, it didn’t work for you, my favorite way is first as a makeup brush cleaner,’ she began. ‘I actually learned this hack from a professional makeup artist.’
In a new video posted on TikTok, content creator Carly Rivlin revealed how to repurpose beauty products that you regret purchasing
The beauty guru explained how you can repurpose and use up products like shampoo, conditioner and face lotions
The content creator explained that the shampoo can be used to wash other items besides makeup brushes.
‘Sometimes, I’ll also use a shampoo that I’m not obsessed with to hand wash certain things in the sink,’ Rivlin continued.
‘Hair scrunchies, headbands, stuff like that, where I’m not necessarily going to put them in the washing machine because they might fall apart, and I don’t want to use my expensive, delicate hand wash stuff – I’ll just use shampoo.’
Also in the haircare category, Rivlin offered some ideas for salvaging hair oils, conditioners and masks.
‘You can use it as a hair treatment,’ Rivlin explained, as she pointed to her bun. ‘It’s in my hair right now, it’s not necessarily a slick-back, but I’ll just use a ton of the product and create a little hair treatment mask situation in my hair.’
She divulged that when she uses the hair products in a different way that they were intended, she ends up liking them.
‘If something is not conditioning enough, I’m using so much of it in the treatment, that I like it,’ she explained.
Alternatively, if something is ‘too conditioning,’ she’ll use it as a deep conditioning hair mask and put her hair into a bun for the treatment.
When it comes to using up a shampoo that you don’t like, Rivlin recommended reimagining it as a makeup brush cleaner

Next up on the list? Skincare products that you’re looking to use up.
Rivlin instructed swapping them and using them as body products, instead.
‘For moisturizers, if it’s super rich, way too rich for my face – I don’t even know why I bought it – I use it on my feet,’ the influencer admitted.
‘I use it on my knees, I use it on my elbows, it’s such a nice way to use up moisturizer.’
She also recommended using serums that are meant for your face on your chest instead.
‘You can use it all over your body,’ Rivlin advised, before adding that when she uses it on her décolletage, she feels like she’s seeing its benefits.
Last but not least, Rivlin had a genius hack for using up body cleansers and face cleansers that didn’t do the trick when they served their original purpose.
‘Use them to clean your makeup brushes,’ the beauty guru said simply.
In the comments section of her video, some users shared the creative methods they use in order to repurpose the products that they don’t like.
Rivlin also recommended to use heavy-duty face creams on other parts of the body, like the feet and knees

In the comments section of her TikTok video, many users revealed how they repurpose their own beauty products they don’t like
‘Use conditioners you don’t like to shave! Also highlighters you don’t like on your face as a body highlighter on your décolletage/shoulders,’ one person wrote.
Another advised, ‘Snail mucin didn’t work on my face but I’ve been using it on my legs after shaving as a serum before lotion!!’
‘I use shampoo I don’t like on my nail brush to clean my nails,’ someone else commented.
One person even offered, ‘If it’s still within 30 days you can take used beauty products back to Ulta and Sephora for a full refund.’
