nfl player prop: air show at ford field

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (6).

Because snow necessitated moving the Steelers-Bills game to Monday, anxious NFL fans are forced to wait longer than usual for a second straight Sunday. But when the action finally kicks off at 3:05 p.m. ET, we’ll be treated to a weather-free matchup between teams that just vanquished the two most recent NFC champions. While the Lions and Buccaneers might be considered unlikely conference semifinalists, their prolific passers look like a good bet to deliver our top prop:

The bet: Over 536½ combined passing yards for quarterbacks Jared Goff and Baker Mayfield (BetMGM)

A quick inspection reveals striking parallels between these two players. Both Goff and Mayfield are former first overall picks (in 2016 and 2018, respectively) who were jettisoned by the teams that drafted them. And now they’re seeking redemption by guiding their new squads to football’s final four.

The homestanding Lions are riding high after Goff threw for 277 yards and a touchdown to beat the Rams — the very team that traded him. He has averaged 281 passing yards over his last five games, with the low-water mark being 257. And since the Lions are getting torched by opposing quarterbacks, the combined passing yardage in each of their previous four contests exceeds 600.

Meanwhile, Mayfield just delivered one of the best performances of his four-team career, connecting with nine of his Bucs teammates for 337 yards and three TDs in a win over the Eagles. He has cleared 280 passing yards in four of his last five games, with the lone exception coming on a windy day in Charlotte when he injured his ankle.

Considering a spot in the conference championship is on the line, two hot quarterbacks playing indoors against bottom-six pass defenses should equate to yards aplenty.
